The BFG

Late one night, Sophie is snatched from her bed in the orphanage by the BFG, who takes her back to his cave in Giant Country. The BFG — Big Friendly Giant — is a dream-blowing giant who blows lovely golden dreams into the bedrooms of sleeping children. The two soon become the best of friends, feasting together on disgusterous stinking snozzcumbers, washed down with frobscottle and making whizzpoppers together.

 Reviews

”…..simply glorious. There isn’t a bored child in the house…. Ellie Jones, the director, plays tricks with scale in a clever and seamless juxtaposition of puppetry and actors. The puppetry is visible and endlessly fascinating. A tiny, winsome Sophie is hooked out through the window of a miniature orphanage by a life-size BFG. A life-size Sophie later swings her legs in the Queen’s apartment at Buckingham Palace with a giant BFG.

The children can’t get enough of the burping, farting giant…. there’s wit, beauty and poignancy, too – a different level almost for the adults to appreciate. Watch out for a star appearance from the Queen’s corgi. I’m still laughing at the memory.”

Pat Ashworth, The Stage.

TNWO Shoreditch Town hall

2011-10-06

I am thrilled to be directing another staging of  Hydrocracker‘s The New World Order in Shoreditch Town Hall.
Staged in a former government building, Hydrocracker’s darkly compelling promenade performance journeys from the council chambers of high-minded policymakers to the labyrinthine depths below, where functionaries of the new world order keep ‘the world clean for democracy’.
